Physics, Mathematics, and Biology Background (Course names or description, please): Normal engineering undergraduate math and physics background (E&M, Optics, Mechanics, Calculus, Differential Equations). Some more specialized materials/chemistry (Organic Chemistry, Advanced Nanomaterials). Biology background is primarily from research and basic classes, MP&B330 physiology, most recently Vascular Pathology.
What do you already know about biophysics, bioengineering, or biology? This is a loaded question! My research experience tells me that we need better model systems and better sensing. I’m constantly wondering about the relevance of research to the real world.
What is your experience in computer programming or mathematical modeling? finite element modeling with several software packages (Matlab, Comsol, FlexPDE). I have done projects with PDE modeling of microfluidics and coupled enzyme reactions (advection, diffusion, coupled enzyme) Programming experience is limited (Matlab, Labview). Grad classes with Dr. Does and Dr. Miga (signals and numerical methods)
Why are you taking this class? What do you hope to get out of it? I’m interested in new perspectives and paradigm changing ideas.

What is your experience in computer programming or mathematical modeling? Extensive.. I'm trying to learn COMSOL.
Why are you taking this class? What do you hope to get out of it? I want to learn more about the organ on a chip movement.

What do you already know about biophysics, bioengineering, or biology? I know about some of the uses of microfluidics for studying biology and how to design and build valved devices.
What is your experience in computer programming or mathematical modeling? Experience with LabVIEW, Matlab, Python, and COMSOL. Currently developing a Python valve control program. Also working on computational and analytical models of microfluidic mixers.
Why are you taking this class? What do you hope to get out of it? I am taking this class to get a better understanding of systems biology. I do a lot with microfluidics, although want to get a better understanding of the relevant biology and associated experiments.
What is your teaching experience? Taught a class of the course "Instrumentation for Automated Biology". Helped to train with microfabrication techniques. Mentored middle/high school student with science fair.

What do you already know about biophysics, bioengineering, or biology? I am very familiar with the fields of tissue engineering and drug delivery, and also have some experience in biophysics. I performed undergraduate research in a tissue engineering lab at CWRU and am now doing research on drug delivery.

I hope to understand the “philosophy” behind systems biology and attain a deeper understanding of the challenges of the discipline.
